Custom Fabric Prints…endless possibilities!

One thing people may not know about me is that I have an Associates degree in “Visual Communication” which is a fancy-shmancy way of saying “graphic design.” I haven’t really been putting that degree to good use since I graduated in 2011, but I vowed to myself this year that I’m going to change that. I found a way to combine two of my favorite things — digital art and sewing — and it’s a website called Spoonflower. Spoonflower allows users to upload an image file and, long story short, that image file can be printed on many types of fabrics, gift wrap, and/or wallpaper. I’ll be honest, it’s not very cost effective, as a single yard of fabric is as low as $17.50 (and goes up depending on fabric quality and type), but if you’re looking for a custom fabric that you cannot find anywhere else in the world, it’s totally worth the premium cost! (P.S. I am willing to design one for you! Contact me for details.)

The idea of designing fabric prints came to me when my sister asked me to make a dress for my niece. Knowing my sister likes “badass” things like skulls, I thought it would be fun to design a custom fabric for the dress! Instead of polka dots, I put black skulls on a gorgeous teal background. Then, I made about 10 other colors while I was at it, haha! These fun skull prints are all available for purchase now in my Spoonflower shop, but here’s a preview and a picture of the completed dress! ❤
